How it works.

The 101

As your grazer, I will manage the vegetation on your site according to our agreed goals. You pay me a per acre rate for annual service. Reducing fine fuel loads for the California Wildfire season is the most common goal we service and costs vary depending on the difficulty of the site to graze. Expect to pay between $325 and $1150 per acre. If you can safely get a hand crew in there for less, you should definitely consider that instead.

Finished product includes plenty of residual vegetation but a net decrease in fine fuel.

It’s grazing, not mowing

Hoping for that crosshatch pattern they do in major league outfields? Yeah, we can’t do that yet. We measure success by fuel load reduction and responsible soil management, which sometimes looks….not manicured. At the same time, we are not a “masticating” crew. Thick, woody material will remain as will some stands of un-trampled vegetation.

These are real, living animals

The whole symphony of nature will be happening on your site: birth, death (we try to reduce this), love, loss are all possible; it’s a messy world, can you handle it? The herd is comprised of pregnant or nursing ewes, their lambs, rams, goat wethers and some big smart dogs (who barks, a lot!).
